No one can question that being a mom is an incredibly challenging role and if we add on top of that being an autism mom or a mother who is also autistic …. Well, things can get extra challenging.
Do you forget to eat & drink? Can’t remember what day it is or what appointment you have later on today? Are you sometimes so over stimulated by everything around you that you just want to surrender and take a nap? Same!
There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to being a mom. Having said that, these are 5 gift ideas that I’ve found useful in my autism motherhood journey and hopefully they help you too.

My 5 suggestions for gifts for autism moms are the following.
1. Autism Mom Gift Idea: Earplugs. All Day – Everyday
One of the best things I did this year was get loop earplugs. I have three pairs, two of the Loop Quiet for when I want to sleep and one pair of the Loop Engage for when I’m out and about.
Bedtime
If you’re a light sleeper like me and live in a house with young children who DO NOT CARE if you slept less than two consecutive hours. Then THIS is for you!
I’ve used all kinds of earplugs before, especially those foam ones you get at the pharmacy. But they usually don’t block out enough noise or the end up falling off halfway through the night. Again, causing me to wake up. And there is also the money aspect. With foam earplugs, you have to throw them away and keep buying new ones.
This doesn’t happen with the Loop Quiet.
- They fit perfectly, are comfortable, and don’t fall off.
- They are silicone, so they are soft and I can wash them and keep using them.
- It might seem like a “big” purchase upfront, but in the long run if you do the math, it really is not. Wash and reuse over and over again. Perfect.
How much is a good night’s sleep worth to you? Since I’ve become a mother, any sleep is worth its weight in gold.
If you are or know of anyone with noise sensitivity, these earplugs are worth looking into.
Quick tip: To get an idea of what they feel like, stick your finger in your ears. It’s a cocoon like feeling where everything is toned down and you mainly hear your own breathing.
During the day – out in the world
Loop Engage are perfect for being out in social settings. When I’m in the supermarket with my kids and I find myself overwhelmed due to my sensory sensitivity, I’ll pop in my earplugs and immediately start feeling a sense of relief.
The Loop Engage don’t cancel as much of the noise as the Loop Quiet, which allows me to follow any conversation but at the same time slightly lower the volume.
You don’t feel like you are in a cocoon, but you are also not bombarded with all the noise around you.
Tip: if you have sensitivity to the wind in your ears, these also work great! Just pop them in and bye-bye pain.
2. Autism Mom Gift Idea: Tumbler – Fighting Dehydration One Sip At A Time
If you are one of those “out of sight – out of mind” types of gals and forget to drink water. I can’t begin to express how much a tumbler can help you stay on track with my hydration. And, the best part of a tumbler is that it will keep your drinks cold for HOURS. (Or your tea/coffee hot…. because we forget to drink those too!)
Here are two fan favorites you will love:
1. Simple Modern Insulated Tumbler with Lid and Straw: Personally I am a Simple Modern fan. Their tumblers work, they last FORVER, and they look great. Love!
2. Stanley Quencher H2.0: We all know these keep your drinks cold FORVER. Did you see the TikTok of the car that caught fire but the Stanley kept the ice intact. Amazing!
Quick tip: If you don’t like the taste of water you can always add some fruit. Or, add electrolyte powder packets. DripDrop has different flavors you can add to your water, making it more interesting and enjoyable.
3. Autism Mom Gift Idea: Calendars – Planners – Alarms
Do you sometimes forget what day of the week it is?
Being a mom and juggling with the schedules of all the tiny humans that live under your roof is exhausting. If you don’t create some sort of a system that works … how are you surviving? (real question!).
Personally, I use a Magnetic Dry Erase Calendar that I stick on the fridge. It has been crucial to keeping everything organized. It’s great to simply erase everything and start penciling in the following week. The color combinations keep it fun and cute.
To take on the go, and if you love organizing with pen and paper, a Weekly Planner is a great addition to your strategy building.
Another great tip for those that are more tech savvy is to sync your calendars, digital planners, and alarms. This way you tend to minimize the risk of forgetting something.
4. Autism Mom Gift Idea: Lunchboxes And Bento Boxes – Not Just For Kids.
Food Storage Containers or a Bentgo® are the ideal solution. Here you can pack ANYTHING. From a healthy snack to the most sugar filled treat for yourself! Whatever gets you through the day. This Blog is a safe space for moms.
An Insulated Lunch Bag is perfect for when you are so overwhelmed taking care of everyone else’s needs that you know you will end up forgetting to eat. Just add your food containers inside and you are good to go!
This lunch bag is IDEAL because I can add my keys, phone, and anything else I might need that day. Making it double as my day bag for when I just want to minimize the amount of stuff I want to be carrying around.
5. Autism Mom Gift Idea: An Essential Oil Diffuser – The Power Of Aromatherapy
Using an Essential Oil Diffuser makes a great gift. We all have particular scents that bring us a sense of calm.
The 10 most popular essential oils and the health claims associated with them:
